Four mistakes come up again and again on the fields we're called out to look at:
Missing the signs entirely. Usually a staffing issue, not a knowledge issue. Nobody walked the field, so nobody saw the color shift until the damage was done.
Overwatering native soil fields. Dumping water on a stressed field feels like the obvious response, but oversaturated native soil compounds the stress and opens the door to disease. Now you're fighting two problems instead of one.
Mowing straight through stressed areas. Crews keep their normal mowing pattern through visibly stressed turf, and when the field recovers, it carries long streaks of dead plant material where the mower ran. Steer around the stress until it recovers.
Running a whole irrigation zone for one spot. Flipping on an entire zone to fix a dry patch the size of a table drowns everything around it and wastes water. That's not good stewardship, and in a restriction year it can cost you your watering schedule.
Should you raise your mowing height when temperatures hit 90°?
