Mabank ISD
Mabank, TX
PROJECT TYPE
FIELD RENOVATION
Weeks before opening day, Mabank ISD's baseball infield was in worse shape than it had been before recent renovation work. Low spots pooled water after rain, turf coverage was inconsistent from clump to bare soil, the mound and plate areas weren't built to handle competitive use, and an irrigation system throwing the wrong patterns was actively preventing establishment. Every problem was feeding the next one. SFS assessed the full picture, went after root causes instead of symptoms, and rebuilt the infield from the ground up. That meant laser grading and install of TifTuf bermudagrass sod on the infield playing surface and foul territory, Pro Play Classic infield mix installed and laser graded on the skin, full mound reconstruction, irrigation reconfiguration, and complete realignment of base anchors, foul poles, and home plate. The team was back on the field a full week ahead of schedule.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
SOLUTION
The infield was laser graded for proper drainage slope. The skin was rebuilt with Pro Play Classic Infield Mix. The pitcher's mound was fully reconstructed with clay bricks installed in the mound and batter's boxes. Irrigation was reconfigured for head-to-head coverage. The infield was sodded with TifTuf bermudagrass and overseeded with rye. Base anchors, foul poles, and home plate were realigned.
PROBLEM
Poor grading created low spots across the infield where water pooled instead of draining. Turf coverage was inconsistent, the mound and plate areas lacked the material to hold up under use, and a misaligned irrigation system was preventing the grass from establishing. Base anchors, foul poles, and home plate were all out of position.
TIMING
March 2026
"From my side, it felt like an impossible job given the time of year and the time constraints. Sports Field Solutions showed tremendous patience and grit as they stuck with the project through every obstacle. Their communication and professionalism kept us informed throughout the process, and we were able to get on the field a week earlier than expected. The final surface surpassed my expectations and became something our students dream of playing on."
